You may feel like you are in the minority, and sometimes it is hard to find a group or resources that fit your family’s needs, because so often, the groups and resources that are publicized are those with a religious component.

• HOPE in the Sandhills-

  HOPE in the Sandhills is for homeschooling parents and their children who want to Help Others Prioritize Education (HOPE) in their homes. We are a secular home school support group for families who are ***currently home schooling at least one child in elementary school level or above***. We currently do not require fees, but we do ask that you are an ACTIVE participant in our group. The purpose of our group is to exchange relevant information, answer questions, support one another, take field trips, enjoy fun events together, meet for activities, and make lasting friendships.   North Wake Teen Homeschoolers is a secular support group for families with homeschoolers of middle and high school aged children (ages 11 and up) in Northern Wake County, North Carolina and the surrounding areas. (Parents and siblings are welcome to join in on many of the activities, but not all.) The group is member directed - meaning everyone is welcome and encouraged to plan events and activities.

• Onslow - Relaxed Homeschoolers of Jacksonville-

  This group was created to provide a community in the Jacksonville, NC and surrounding area for: relaxed homeschoolers, unschooling interested, those new to unschooling, and unschooling veterans regardless of religious/secular and political beliefs.   Typical skills & subjects by grade/ages. Homeschoolers & Unschoolers, this is a good tool for developing your own curricula in subject areas, or to be sure that your kids are "on track" with their peers whether for college prep, testing preparation, plans for returning to public school or simply for your own information. Don't be a slave to them, but do take a look at these types of lists as most of the time, you will see how much your children are learning and how close they are to where their peers are even without being in "real school".
