Summer Fun!

Homeschoolers can enrich their summer at Forsyth Tech this year. Classes are offered from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. and students are encouraged to enroll early since they will fill up quickly.

This is a four week summer enrichment program for youth ages 8-13, which will offer classes in college prep, STEM topics, computer animation, and pediatric care.

Minecraft

From concept to creation, students at Destination Forsyth Tech will turn their ideas into finished products which can include bringing their favorite Minecraft characters to life in a short animated film, designing their own app game or creating one-of-a-kind art.

They are also offering Babysitting FUNdamentals for 12-15 and College Essay writing class.

Costs & Course Descriptions

Morning Care – $25

Students will engage in a variety of physical and enrichment activities to start their day. Ages:8-13

Afternoon Care – $30

Students are offered an extended summer enrichment experience which includes a variety of physical and fun activities to close out their day. Ages: 8-13

STEM

App Adventures: The Next Level! – $129

Whether you’re ready to move past the basic techniques learned in App Attack or want to jump right in, we are ready for you! Students will choose from a selection of different web-based (HTML5) mobile apps and explore more in-depth programming concepts. Student projects will be accessible on a password protected website and can be played on any mobile device or computer. No prior experience is necessary. Ages: 11-13

Code Breakers – $129

Calling all future coders, programmers, & designers! Learn the basics of coding languages like HTML, JavaScript, and CSS through a series of web projects and design challenges each day and be on your way to becoming the next tech star! Whether you want to be the next Mark Zuckerberg or the high school student who just enjoys programming in your bedroom, this course has the essentials you need to begin your journey. Student projects will be accessible on a password protected website. Ages: 8-10 and 11-13

Digital Storytellers – $129

Whether you want to rewrite the ending to Star Wars, add yourself to a Divergent tale, or create a new adventure about your friends – any topic is possible in this class! Start with a concept, design the storyboard, add some dialogue, and watch as the characters in your imagination come to life in your first graphic novel! Student projects will be accessible on a password protected website. Ages: 11-13

G2 – The Girl Gamers Club – $129

Hang out with new friends, have fun, and learn key S.T.E.M. skills in this one of a kind class! Candy Crush, Facebook, and Instagram were all built by people who understand the foundations of design and technology. In this class learn the basic elements of 2-D Game Design. Each day will have a tech challenge and a profile of the female stars of the tech world. Student-created games will be available on a password protected website to share with friends and family. Ages: 9-12

Game Labs: Collaborate- Create- Compete in the Ultimate Video Game Experience – $129

For serious gamers only! Beyond 2D and 3D, now it’s time to take it to another level by competing with the world! Students will develop games in a unique game engine. Students will learn advanced level editing, simple 3D modeling, intermediate event scripting and the impact of game play on user experience. Student projects will be accessible on a password protected website. System Requirements for home experience: 2GB of RAM, and 2.0GHZ processor. Ages: 11-13

LEGOⓇ Video Games – $129

Combine your two favorite activities: LEGOs and Video Games! Students will create their own LEGO characters and adventures in an interactive 2D Video Game. Everyone is welcome in this one of a kind class. At the end of the program, every student will have a finished LEGO Video. Student projects will be accessible on a password protected website. Games are only compatible on PC computers; Mac versions can be created after the class for a $15.00 conversion fee. Ages: 8-10

LegoⓇ Comics: Design Your Own Adventure! – $129

In this LEGO adventure YOU are the star! Pick your favorite LEGO genre or create an alternate universe to create a digital illustrated story or graphic novel. Whether you want to fight alongside Superheroes, create a Minecraft story or go into space with Rey and Finn, the only requirement is that you put yourself in the story! All students will end the class with a digital comic book that can be shared with friends and family on a password protected website! Ages: 8-10

Make Your First 3D Video Game! – $129

This class allows you to develop a game concept that goes well beyond the limitations of the traditional 2D game design classes and create an immersive 3D world. Students will learn the physics behind 3D games, explore beginner event scripting, level design, controlling flow of gameplay, and storytelling. Student created games will be available on a password protected website to share with friends and family. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on the previous years. Ages: 8-10 and 11-13

Maker Labs: Make Your First 3D Creation! – $129

Calling all boys and girls who want to be the designers of the future! In this class if you can dream it you can make it – create your first action figure, design custom jewelry, or make a new toy, learn how to prepare a model for 3D printing, and create a design portfolio to showcase your work! Using professional-level modeling software, you will sculpt, texture, and render your own 3D creation. No prior experience is necessary and 3D designs will be available on a password protected website to share with friends and family. (3D prints may be purchased separately through an online provider.) Ages: 8-10 and 11-13

MinecraftⓇ Animators – $129

Bring your favorite Minecraft characters to life in an animated short film! Learn how studios like Pixar and Disney make movies like Inside Out and Frozen by using techniques like key framing, tweening, texturing, and animating rigged 3D models! Student projects will be available on a password protected website. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on the previous years. Mac users can play their project at home, but will not be able to edit the project without a PC. Ages: 8-10 and 11-13

MinecraftⓇ Designers – $129

If you love the game Minecraft, and always wanted to design your own world, this class is for you! Learn how to create a custom map, the basics of creating 3D models using a new software to design your very own objects, how to build with Redstone and Command blocks, and create custom textures for you to import at home or share with friends. To access their project at home students, must own a PC/MAC version of Minecraft. Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. Ages: 8-10 and 11-13

MinecraftⓇ Modders – $129

Use your favorite game to learn the basics of modding and foundations of programming. Learn scripting and logic statements as you create your first mods! Introductory coding will also be taught through a simulated environment inspired by Minecraft. Student projects will be available on a password protected website to share with friends and family. To access their project at home students must own a PC/MAC version of Minecraft. Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. Ages: 8-10 and 11-13

Star WarsⓇ Stop Animation – $129

Make your own Star Wars adventure come to life! Bring in your favorite action figures or Star Wars action figure and create a short film with your friends. Whether you want to recreate a scene from Star Wars or design a new world of your own, this class brings your dreams to the screen. Students will need to bring in Star Wars action figures or vehicles from home, but all other equipment is provided. Student-created films will be available on a password protected website to share with friends and family. Ages: 8-10 and 11-13

Video Game Animation -$129

Take your game design skills to the next level by creating and animating your own character sprites, objects, and backgrounds. Start with a name, develop the character’s personality, signature moves, special powers, and a story line. Finish with a fully animated character to be used in your very own game. Students do not need any prior experience in game design, animation, or sketching. Student-created games will be available on a password protected website to share with friends and family. Games are only compatible on PC computers; Mac versions can be created after the class for $15.00 conversion fee. Ages: 8-10 and 11-13

Music, Art & Drama

Adventures in Directing Drama – $79

Create your own endings, characters, and scenes as we explore your dramatic ideas. Have a vision of what should happen next? What would happen if the location was changed? Develop analytical thinking, explore each other’s scenarios, and learn to give constructive feedback. Students will develop a creative flow that uses their imaginations, explores plot-twists, delves into problem solving, and engages in storytelling. Act it out, but write it out first. Ages: 8-11

Adventures in Drama $79

Spend four days exploring your dramatic side! Build confidence in expressing yourself. Students are guided to use vocal, facial, and physical expression to engage with scripts, characters, and poetry. Practice pronunciation, inflection, expression, and varied volume. Learn how to better see pictures in your mind like a movie brings stories to “life.” Participants can sign up for multiple weeks. Previous acting experience is NOT required. Ages: 8-11

Animal Kingdom – $79

Explore the many animal kingdoms through art, painting, plaster masks and watercolor. Ages: 8-11

Band – Beginning: $79

Calling all NEW Middle School Band Students! Don’t wait until school starts to learn the basics of your instrument! In this class you will explore beginning techniques, hand placement, sound production, cleaning and care of your band instrument and basic music theory. Emphasis is placed on proper techniques which will help the beginning band student succeed in their school band. The class is limited to flute, clarinet, trumpet and trombone instruments. You must provide your instrument for class. Note: This course is offered in partnership with Jackson Music. You will be able to rent an instrument for the four-day class. Jackson Music will extend discounts if interested in ownership of the instrument.

Glow in the Dark – $79

The dark never looked so good. Enjoy making unique art pieces with glow in the dark paint under black lighting. Ages: 8-11

Impromptu Adventures – $79

Express your feelings and ideas with improvisation, impromptu speaking, and charades. We all experience situations that call for unscripted speaking. In this class, we will rely on our imaginations. Students will explore how to better share ideas by thinking about other points of views and perspectives. We will play games that research suggests might develop our “mind reading” mode, enhance flexible thinking, and build confidence to try new things and think outside the box. Ages: 8-11

Paint Like the Masters – $79

Create your own masterpiece in the style of artists like O’Keefe, Haring and Matisse. Ages: 8-11

Recyclable Art -$79

Turn trash into treasures! Not all trash needs to be thrown away. Turn everyday disposable objects into beautiful art, including sculptures, textiles and décor. Ages: 8-11

Brain Charge

Be Your Own Boss: $79

Learn all the nuts and bolts of starting a business and being your own boss. Over the course of four days, students will learn key skills like financial literacy, product development, pricing, operations, marketing and sales. This national Lemonade Day program for teens, sponsored by GoogleⓇ, isn’t your grandfather’s lemonade stand. Students will compete in teams and launch an actual storefront, develop a website and social media campaigns, and sell product to real customers for a day. In order to also teach philanthropy, proceeds from the businesses will be given to charity. Offered in partnership with Google for Entrepreneurs & innovateHER. Ages 11-13

Mad Math – $69
It’s alive!!!! Students will learn to analyze and solve mathematical problems using fun brain teasers, creative games, and computer activities that will enhance their skills as mathematicians. This class provides an opportunity for students to delve into exciting math activities that will not only prepare them for the middle school experience, it will make math come alive! Rising 6th – 8th graders

Mathtastic – $69
Be Mathtastically prepared for the upcoming school year! Students will apply math to everyday activities through the use of games, arts and crafts, and creative problem-solving opportunities. This class reinforces basic math facts while exploring and discovering the amazing wonder of numbers in our world. Rising 3rd – 5th graders.

Readership 101 – $69

Be prepared for the upcoming school year. Improve your Readership! This course will focus on increasing vocabulary, building fluency, and strengthening comprehension. Students will participate in a variety of literacy activities, including interactive reading, and individualized skill instruction. Students become more effective readers; therefore, leaders in academic success! Rising 3rd – 5th graders

Reading from the Middle – $69

Improve your Readership in Middle School! This course will focus on increasing vocabulary, building fluency, and strengthening comprehension. Students will participate in a variety of literacy activities, including interactive reading, and individualized skill instruction to aid them in becoming more effective readers. Rising 6th – 8th graders

Your College Essay – $49

Preparing your college essay can be overwhelming. Learn how to set yourself apart from other college bound hopefuls by crafting a college essay that captures and conveys your uniqueness. In class, students will learn how to write a well-crafted essay that sets the foundation to developing their personal statement and responding to other open-ended college admission questions. Enjoy more confidence and less anxiety as you plan for your future! Rising 11th and 12th graders

Public Safety Heroes – $69

“Keeping US Safe Every Day!” – Learn how our Fire, Emergency Medical Services, and Police officers keep us safe every day of the year, 24/7 they are on duty. This exciting program will focus on careers in the public safety field of work and introduce the aspiring public safety student to careers in firefighting, emergency medical services, emergency management and law enforcement. Will you be the next on-the-street public safety hero? Ages: 11-13

Babysitting FUNdamentals – $89

Learn basics of how to market yourself; receive hands on baby care and learn to provide safe and fun childcare. Upon completion of the course students may download a certificate. Offered in partnership with Red Cross. Ages: 12-15

Pediatric First Aid/CPR – $60

Topic covered in this class include: child/infant CPR/AED/ choking, asthma care and pediatric first aid. Upon successful completion of the skills test, you will receive a certification in CPR/ First Aid training. Certificate of completion of the class will be provided the last day of class.

Note: Certification in CPR/First Aid is based on completion of the skills test and certificates will be given to students at the end of class. Ages: 12-15
