Homeschoolers Explore at Latta Plantation Nature Center
Scales and Slime
This activity is FREE. Students ages 5 and up are invited to bring their friends and explore at the Latta Plantation Nature Center, 6211 Sample Road, Huntersville, NC on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 from 10 – 11 a.m.
Find out the answer to questions such as: How long is the biggest snake in the world? Test your hopping skills against frogs and help the American toad catch his lunch. This program focuses on learning about reptiles and amphibians.

Snowflake Science for Pre-Schoolers
Discover nature with your little one through stories, crafts, and activities related to the week’s theme. Registration is required. (See below)
Nature Hike
- Wednesday, January 25, 2017, 12 p.m.
- Cost is $3.00 for Explorers ages 9 and up
The Latta Plantation Nature Preserve has a deep and hidden history. Learn more about it and visit off-trail sites that few have seen! This hike will involve stream crossings, so wear waterproof boots or shoes you don’t mind getting wet. This is a moderate-paced, 3-5 mile hike. Participants should wear appropriate layers and bring a water bottle and snack. Registration required. (see below)
Snowflake Science for Nature Detectives
- Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 1:30 p.m.
- Cost is $3 each for Nature Detectives ages 4-5
Discovering nature helps spark inner curiosity and creativity! During these programs, participants will become nature detectives as they explore the natural world around them. Each session will feature stories, games, and activities related to the topic.
Muddy Boots & Crafty Critters
- Friday, Jan 27, 2017 at 10:30 a.m.
- Cost is $3 each for Crafty Critters ages 4 – 11
Show off your artistic skills, or just make a mess! Join your friends at the nature center and explore the natural world through arts and crafts. Session each feature a different theme. Cost includes a “take-home” craft for each participant.

Muddy Boots
- Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 1 p.m.
- Students ages 6-13 can get their boots muddy for $3.00
This is a hiking club for kids. Develop outdoor exploration skills. Kids will learn how to navigate off-trail and build their confidence and comfort in wooded spaces. Participants should wear weather-appropriate clothing (including long pants and closed-toe shoes) and bring a water bottle. Always plan on getting dirty. You can bring kids a change of clothes when you pick them up if needed.
Family Fun Weekend

Free Activity
Sunday, January 29, 2017 at 2 p.m. – Join the Latta Homeschoolers Outdoor Learning Group for a Winter in the Woods Hike (ages 8 and older) FREE at the Latta Plantation Nature Center!
