Art in the Afternoon

Families are invited to a FREE Community Open House at The Sawtooth School for Visual Art!
Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 1-3 p.m.

Join them for an afternoon of free art projects & demonstrations at Sawtooth with your teens and kids!
Hands-on youth art activities and opportunities to watch artists demonstrate how they work in various mediums including; glass, wood, metals, painting, & pottery.
Meet the studio coordinators and teachers and see what classes at Sawtooth are like – art for everyone!

Art at Sawtooth

  • Classes and workshops for every age and skill level from beginner to advanced
  • A broad range of art forms including painting & drawing, ceramics, metals, glass, wood, fibers, darkroom and digital photography, digital art and more
  • Creative summer programs for students from pre-K through high school
  • A beautiful gallery space with shows and exhibitions throughout the year and a great gift shop featuring local and regional hand-crafted art.

There will be a drawing at the Open House for a year long free family membership ($135 value), or student membership ($35 value) to the Sawtooth School.

Moravian Craft Workshops

In honor of Old Salem’s 250th, Sawtooth will join Old Salem in celebrating by offering classes and workshops throughout the fall inspired by the art, history and culture of Salem in 1766.

Creative sessions available to the community will include; traditional Moravian pottery, stained glass Moravian stars; overshot weaving, heirloom pumpkin watercolor,Fraktur lettering, and darkroom photography.

Younger artists will enjoy making paper Moravian stars and the adult/child candle making workshop.

Old Salem Candle Making Workshop will be Saturday, October 22, 2016 from 1 – 2:30 p.m. -in collaboration with members of the Mary Ann Fogle Service League, experience the creation of the beautiful trimmed Moravian lovefeast candles. Witness a demonstration of the entire process from start to finish, and help with making a set of your own.

Moravian Star Workshop will be Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 9 – 3 p.m. with a break for lunch from 12 – 1 p.m. – in celebration of Old Salem’s 250th we will welcome Max Brady who has been creating Moravian stars for many years. Learn the process, geometry and beauty of how to create a twenty-six point Moravian star to display in your own home.
